Night Shift Differential: Approximately $1.71/Hour

John Wayne Airport (JWA) is a modern, 20 gate, medium hub commercial service and general aviation airport owned and operated by the County of Orange. We are located in a vibrant and economically viable area of Southern California and home to seven commercial and one commuter airline, two all-cargo carriers, two full service fixed-based operators, and over 450 general aviation aircraft. John Wayne Airport operates as an enterprise fund, self-supported through revenues it generates and receives no monies from the County General Fund. These revenues are utilized to operate the Airport, provide for repayment of revenue bonds, fund facility capital improvements and maintenance projects, and support aviation planning.

AIRPORT MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The John Wayne Airport (JWA) Facilities Maintenance division is responsible for the upkeep, repair and safety of all JWA facilities. Facilities include a terminal building with approximately 800,000 square feet of interior space as well as maintenance of over 500 acres of airfield and parking structures with more than 10,000 parking spaces. In addition to the regular repair and upkeep of these facilities, the Facilities Maintenance Division is also responsible for the JWA's compliance with all local, State and Federal environmental regulations.
 
THE OPPORTUNITY
The County of Orange, John Wayne Airport, has an opportunity for a collaborative, results-oriented professional to join our Facilities Management team. Under general supervision, this position will perform a variety of skills and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of buildings and all associated equipment. In completing assignments, the position will perform electrical, plumbing, air-conditioning, mechanical, carpentry, and other related repairs. Additionally, this position may be tasked with coordinating the work of other skilled and semi-skilled craft personnel. This position will support the Airport Maintenance Supervisor and may be assigned to field or terminal based assignments, as needed.

WORK HOURS  (4/10) Schedule; Wednesday – Saturday 8:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate will have one (1) or more years of experience in each of the following areas: electrical, mechanical, and plumbing as well as minor repairs in carpentry. The ideal candidate will also have experience completing maintenance projects at an airport or other large commercial facility. The possession of certifications or licensures in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or mechanical is preferred but not required. In addition to the minimum qualifications, the successful candidate must also possess the following core competencies:

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERTISE
  • Familiarity with terminology and principles related to facilities and maintenance work
  • Understanding of and experience in performing a variety of facility maintenance trades, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical work
  • Experience in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and/or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Experience and ability to diagnose root cause(s) of equipment or facilities failures, implement repairs, and develop plan for preventative maintenance
  • Experience preparing work orders, reading blueprints, documenting facility conditions and updating maintenance plans

  • Ability to work positively and effectively to resolve issues and develop collaboration within internal team settings as well as with County of Orange agencies and or external stakeholders
  • Ability to represent the organization effectively and communicate articulately, while demonstrating organizational integrity

  • Ability to use sound reasoning skills to identify and analyze problems by gathering relevant information and considering a broad range of issues related to facilities and maintenance

AIRPORT ACCESS REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must clear background check which includes a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Security Threat Assessment (STA).

PHYSICAL | ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Incumbents must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds; move around be confined to small spaces; climb ladders, scaffolding and poles; independent body mobility to climb, stand, walk, crawl, stoop, bend, pull, and/or push; identify and distinguish colors; manual dexterity to keyboard; operate power tools or other machinery that may be potentially hazardous; pass as initial asbestos physical examination and subsequent periodic examination in order to be issued and utilize a respirator; Speak and hear well enough to communicate in person and over the radio and telephone; Work outside in all types of weather conditions and have occasional controlled contact with potentially harmful chemical or biological agents; Work around high voltage systems.

Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.

Eligible List | Score Groups: Once all assessments have been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
