Job Responsibilities
Proficiently installs, maintains, monitors, and repairs portions of television, radio, and network equipment which utilize complex low, high, and very high frequency digital electronic technologies throughout the ETV Statewide system.
Diagnoses and corrects malfunctioning complex electronic portions of computer controlled analog / digital audio and or video routing, production switchers or edit systems, CPU controlled field or studio camera systems, tapeless video / audio storage units, CPU and non CPU controlled audio switchers. Repairs digital tape recorders / players.
Diagnoses and corrects local and wide area networking, firewalls, switches, wireless technology, and Internet protocol problems in the broadcast environment. Maintains all broadcast related servers and keep up with hardware and software updates as well as routine maintenance. Provides technical engineering assistance in computing and networking methodologies and technologies.
Provides technical engineering assistance in the planning, design and construction of production/routing/distribution facilities, operation of remote transmission sights, studios and signal pathways throughout the state system to the Technical Maintenance Manager, Technical Operations Director and the Vice President for Engineering.
Assembles facilities for extremely complex production of program material (may assist higher level technician when the facilities are extremely complex). Advises, assists, and guides lower level technicians in appropriate maintenance and repairing techniques, troubleshooting, construction and installation.
Serves as technician in charge for studio, remote and postproduction activities. Participates with higher level administrators, operation managers, etc. in the development of procedures, rules and policies. Participates in the evaluation of equipment and design facilities. Reviews specifications of new equipment and design of facilities. Reviews specifications on new equipment, recommending new equipment purchases. Operates equipment. e.g., cameras, recorders, etc., during production.Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate degree in a related area; or high school diploma and experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic broadcasting equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree and four years of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of NTSE, EIA, SMPTE, FCC, and SCETV television broadcast standards of digital electronic technologies. Extensive knowledge and skills in operating extremely complex stereo radio and surround sound television production facilities. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve highly complex software and hardware issues. Knowledge of fundamental computing and networking methodologies and technologies in a broadcast environment. Knowledge of local and wide area networking, firewalls, switches, wireless technology, and Internet protocols. Thoroughly skilled in: reading functional diagrams, schematics in applying logical troubleshooting techniques, and in replacing circuit board components. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. The above knowledge and skills can be obtained through on-the-job training, self taught (training manuals and reference manuals), formal education, technical schools, and equipment manufacturer's schools.
Additional Comments
Workplace contains high voltage electronic equipment, large electric motors and electrical equipment. Duties frequently require a considerable amount of walking, standing, bending, and lifting of heavy equipment of 50 lb. items. Job requires some travel. Duties occasionally require weekend and night work. Must be able to respond to emergency situations within a reasonably short time.
