SUMMARY
The incumbent under the guidance of the Water Line Maintenance Supervisor installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs water lines of the municipal distribution system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.
1. Repair leaks on water mains.
2. Repair fire hydrants as needed.
3. Oversee crew on the job site.
4. Restore job site to original state.
5. Assess safety of job site and take appropriate action.
6. Check leaks called in by customers both during and after hours to determine need of repair.
7. Maintain equipment in good working order.
8. Ensure the truck is stocked with everything necessary to complete a job.
9. Maintain good customer relationships.
10. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
11. Required to participate in standby and callout rotation
12. Locate water lines in field as needed to prevent damages and loss of services.
13. Required to maintain residence within 40 minutes driving time to City Maintenance Center to limit response time for calls to service.
14. Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED; previous experience working in a utilities field is necessary. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Class "A" CDL license, with Air Brake Endorsement, within first year of employment. Must have a Class IV Water Distribution License as issued by the State of Arkansas or be able to obtain License within two years of being placed in the position.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the department. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, managing files and records, keyboarding, and other office procedures and terminology. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. Problem solving, speed and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
