Description
- The Norfolk Community Services Board (CSB) provides treatment, supports, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.
Today, the CSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. Norfolk CSB seeks team members interested in providing skilled services in a public service environment. We are also seeking persons to join our team that are dedicated to supporting a positive work and treatment environment that instills hope and recovery opportunities for the persons we serve.
The CSB is seeking to hire a Psychiatrist who works with a challenging population of patients, often from diverse backgrounds, with varying degrees of life stress and psychiatric/general medical comorbidity. The position includes assessing and providing care to patients with developmental disabilities and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. The physician will be required to participate in the on-call provision of services. Essential Functions
- Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Performs psychiatric diagnostic evaluations of patients and provides outpatient treatment including pharmacotherapy and supportive psychotherapy. Orders and interprets laboratory tests. Responds appropriately to psychiatric and medical emergencies.
- Prescribes and monitors medications, including documentation of informed consent; maintains awareness of FDA indications and warnings. Monitors efficacy, safety, and side-effects of prescribed treatments.
- Monitors basic health of patients and refers them as needed to other medical health professionals. Provides after-hours phone consultation for urgent clinical matters involving patients.
- Documents the medical services rendered accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner in accordance with established policies.
- Maintains productivity standards per program requirements.
- Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team and medical staff meetings, as well as providing cross-coverage for other psychiatrists.
- Participates in Utilization Review and Quality Assurance activities, in addition to professional development and continuing medical education activities to maintain medical licensure and specialty certification.
- Provides clinical guidance and education to medical, nursing, and other departments.
- Performs related work, as required.
Education/Experience
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatric residency program.
- No additional experience above the successful completion of a psychiatric residency program.
Additional Information & Requirements
- Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry.
- If Board-Eligible, the psychiatrist must obtain Board Certification within five years of completing their psychiatric residency program.
- Unrestricted Virginia medical license.
- Valid DEA Registration to prescribe Schedule II-V controlled substances.
- Eligible for credentialing with Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party insurance payers.
- Valid driver's license, as required by assignment.
- Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry.

- Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010 or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
