Description

The City of Norfolk's Department of General Services, Facilities Maintenance Division is seeking an Electrician I who will provide assistance to journeyman electricians as required. 

Essential Functions

Department Hiring Salary Range: $27,438 - $30,182

Essential functions include but are not limited to:
 
  • Assist Electrician II with electrical work and projects.
  • Pull wire and data/communication cable.
  • Install conduit.
  • Replace light bulbs, as needed, in City buildings and rec centers.
  • Change ballasts in light fixtures.
  • Replace wall switches, receptacles, and light fixtures.
  • Install and/or replace flags and banners throughout the City.
  • Maintain flagpoles and halyards.
  • Keep work area clean and free of debris.
  • Follow strict tool and inventory control procedures.

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Six months as an electricians assistant.

Preferred:

One year of experience as an electrician's assistant.

  • Valid Driver's License.  DMV transcript (obtained within the previous 30 days) will be required at the time of interview.
