Description
OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Under immediate supervision performs a variety of technical traffic maintenance duties involved in the preparation, construction, and installation of traffic control devices related to transportation in accordance with applicable City and State codes.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises no direct supervision
Examples of Duties
Performs the installation and maintenance of regulatory, warning, construction, and guide signs as well as pavement markings in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
Places channeling devices and warning signs for on-street work for lane closures and transitions.Operates various equipment including light duty trucks, hydraulic dump bed and lift gate, forklift, striping equipment, stripe remover, adhesive applicator, squeeze roll applicator, sign fabricator, letter cutter, banding tool, jack hammer, chain saw, parking meters, power tools, drill press, cutting torch, and welder.
Assists in performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance, minor repairs, cleaning, dismantling, and reassembling related equipment.

Knowledge of:
Principles, practices, and occupational hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance work.
Principles of occupational hazards and safety typical of maintenance work.
Safe driving principles and practices.
Skill to:
Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment used in traffic control device and marking repair and maintenance activities.
Safely operate a vehicle.
Ability to:
Maintain records and read maps.
Learn specialized manual tasks.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Accurately follow oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:
Previous experience performing heavy manual labor is required.
Education/Training:
A high school diploma or a GED is required.
License or Certificate:
A valid Texas driver's license is required within 10 days of employment.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, and squat.
With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 90 pounds.
Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confined work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
Ability to travel to different sites.
