Class Summary

The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources is a publicly-owned utility, committed to providing excellent water, waste water and storm water services at the best possible value to the citizens of Gwinnett County.  The department is widely recognized for service excellence in the operation of 2 water production facilities, 3 water reclamation facilities and 226 pump stations.  In addition, DWR maintains 3,667 miles of water lines, 2,654 miles of sewer lines and 1,325 miles of storm water pipe.  The Department of Water Resources takes pride in stewardship of the environmental resources entrusted to us and pledge to be responsible as we manage water as a limited, but renewable, resource.

The Grade for this position is 97.

APPROPRIATE MAJORS:

  • Must have completed at least eight hours of any mixture college level courses in the disciplines of environmental science, chemistry or biology; and be working towards a four year degree in environmental science, chemistry, or biology.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Perform Dry Weather Screening at assigned stormwater outfalls
  • Assist field and office personnel in stream walks and investigative assignments
  • Inspect detention/retention ponds as assigned, take pictures, and complete documentation
  • Document field conditions and analyze samples collected
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and notify supervisor when additional supplies are required
  • Perform vehicle inspection and minor preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle
  • Perform data entry
  • Maintain and file records and documents
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • The ability to walk in and around a variety of bodies of water and land types, including heavily wooded areas, ditches, creeks, and ponds
  • Must know how to swim
  • Good listening skills and ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisor, the general public
  • Able to operate computers and applicable software including Microsoft Office, ESRI ArcMap
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Available to work weekdays between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm for up to 20 hours per week
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to meet requirements to operate a Gwinnett County vehicle
  • Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to allergens such as pollen and dust, insects such as ants, wasps and yellow jackets, animals such as raccoons, fox and other similar wildlife.
