The Public Health Department is recruiting for Supervising Animal Control Officers I who are responsible for supervising Animal Control Program staff assigned to specific geographical areas for licensing, shelter services, or field services. The current vacancy exists in San Bernardino. The resulting eligible list from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur throughout the County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWork Schedule: Must be available for standby/call-back duty and weekend shifts. Applicants must indicate availability on the application to be considered.
Penal Code 832 Training: Employees will be required to complete a (PC 832) training course in firearms. Some criminal convictions may preclude applicants from completing the PC 832 course.
Uniforms: Employees must provide their own uniforms; those in regular positions will receive an annual uniform allowance of $425.Physical: Applicants must be able to lift up to 100 pounds in order to lift and restrain small to very large animals, both domestic and wild. Applicant must be able to perform in inclement weather.
Travel/License: At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required by the person operating the vehicle. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation. Minimum Requirements
- Experience: Two (2) years of journey level experience as an Animal Control Officer.
Note: Trainee experience is not qualifying and must be clearly separated on the application from time spent at the journey level.
AND
Certification: Must have completed a PC 832 training course in arrest, which also included a physical agility test component. Desired Qualifications
Lead worker or supervisory experience is highly desirable.
