PARK MAINTENANCE SEASONAL

This is a seasonal position working 40 hours per week for a period less than 5 months, under the direct supervision of the Park Superintendent or Asst. Park Superintendent. The park maintenance performs duties in the operation, organization and development of all City Parks, playing fields, maintenance of buildings, swimming pool, and other areas. This position normally works from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with periodic schedule adjustments to accommodate weekend programs.

• Cultivates and maintains planter materials such as grass, flowers, shrubs, and trees for an exhibit type of garden.

• Cleans area of trash and weeds.

• Prunes trees, bushes, vines, etc., in accordance with standard horticulture practices.

• Operates hand and power tools such as mower, tillers, trimmer, shovel rake, etc.

• Constructs and repairs permanent improvements such as fences, pathways, steps, retaining walls, irrigation systems, signs, benches, etc.

• Performs all duties of the Park Maintenance position as required.

• Opens and closes the garden to the public providing security against vandalism.

• Coordinates the use of the garden with private groups such as weddings, club meetings, school tours, etc.

• Secures materials, supplies, and additional work forces when necessary in cooperation with the Park Superintendent or Asst. Park Superintendent.

Prefer one (1) year experience in horticulture or landscape maintenance related business; or equivalent. Must be in good physical condition (job requires some heavy lifting). Must have a valid driver's license. Position requires safety toe boots or safety toe footwear.
