Description

Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to perform variety of skilled work in the City's Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division.

Position Scope:
This is a full-time maintenance support position.

***This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A for consideration***

  • Uses hand tools and equipment and a variety of machines safety and efficiently to assist with repair tasks or general maintenance.
  • Operates and maintains fleet maintenance equipment or power tools, as well as City Vehicles as assigned.
  • Performs general maintenance on City vehicles, washing, waxing and preventative maintenance.
  • Performs daily inspection of vehicles – cleaning as necessary.
  • Assists with monitoring vendor contracts, inspecting their work and providing input into performance.
  • Prepares reports as required.
  • Controls materials, supply ordering and inventory.
  • Responds to and resolves complaints related to housekeeping or maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 Good knowledge of fleet maintenance program responsibilities and activities, equipment and practices. 
 

  • Ability to operate various City vehicles and use various types of department tools and equipment. Ability to perform skilled and administrative work using some independent judgment; ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations; ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve various vehicle mechanical/maintenance issues; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Minimum Requirements

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years of related experience performing similar duties; or any acceptable related combination of education and experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • CPR/First Aid certification desirable.
  • A valid Florida driver's license is required.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A  required.
  • Hoisting license and ASE certifications preferred.
Computer Skills:
  • Some knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office Word

    On a continuous basis, sit at desk and/or stand for long periods of time. Frequently required to operate a motor vehicle. Frequently required to see, hear and talk with employees and the public. Frequently required to read and/or present documents, write or use keyboard to communicate through written means. Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, taste, or smell. Intermittently twist and reach office equipment and field equipment and tools; on occasion lift or carry weight of up to 50 pounds. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid weather conditions, mechanical moving parts, vibration, high places, fumes and/or airborne particles, chemicals, loud noise, and risk of electric shock. Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • There is a one-year probationary period.
  • It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.
