Description

Position Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for supervising and overseeing preventative maintenance and repairs for the City of Sunny Isles Beach automobiles, trucks and equipment and to ensure that the City has a safe, reliable, attractive fleet of vehicles and equipment. Exercises initiative, decision making and independent judgment under the general direction of the City Manager. Additionally, the incumbent will administer budgeted funds and provide recommendations for the budgeting of funds the following year.
 
Position Scope:
This position is classified as non-exempt, full-time with an anticipated forty (40) hour work week.


 

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

  • Performs diagnostic tests on vehicles and equipment.
  • Monitors preventative maintenance programs and determines the need for, and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensures that fleet staff are functioning in an efficient manner so as to increase productivity, reduce cost and promote high morale.
  • Keeps accurate written maintenance records, including preparation, opening and closing of work orders.
  • Approves ordering of maintenance and parts needed to repair vehicles, ensuring that quality services and parts are obtained.
  • Screes, trains, supervises and provides guidance to staff.
  • Interprets and acts upon work orders.
  • Supervises employees using or repairing heavy or complex machinery.
  • Establishes procedures for using and/or maintaining heavy or complex machinery.
  • Approves the ordering of parts and materials needed to execute objectives.
  • Makes visual and operational inspections of vehicles to diagnose and fix problems affecting a variety of equipment including but not limited to CNG and diesel powered vehicles and equipment such as automobiles, passenger buses, police vehicles, general trucks maintenance and equipment, emergency generators, etc.
  • Participates in, troubleshoots and oversees a wide variety of automotive maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to electrical components, starters, generators, distributors, voltage regulators, etc.
  • Provides roadside assistance to operators of City vehicles and equipment and requests for vehicles and equipment to be towed as needed.
  • Prepares new vehicles and equipment for service.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to oversee work of a team engaged in providing specific services, completing specific projects or assisting other departments or outside contractors.
  • Ability to use auto diagnostic equipment and small office equipment including copy machines, telephone systems and radio systems.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools, and medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
 
 

Minimum Requirements

Required Education & Experience:
 

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Fifteen (15) years of related work experience.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and Commercial Driver's License.
