Electrical Inspector

This position participates in the inspection of all permitted public and private electrical installations to enhance public safety and obtain compliance with the National Electrical Code.

Inspects electrical installations to ensure that all local and state mandated electrical and related construction codes and ordinances are being met.

Examines installed electrical wiring for a wide range of systems at different stages of construction.

Examines City approved construction documents to ensure that the intended electrical design is being installed.

Responds to inquiries from homeowners, contractors, design professionals and City departments regarding National Electrical Code requirements and violations.

Responds to complaints of unsafe electrical installations in existing buildings and structures.

Confers with clients and contractors on plan revisions.

Maintains documentation logs and records of inspections; prepares legal testimony of code violations.

Investigates un-permitted work and unlicensed persons.

Assists other inspectors as necessary.

Attends seminars and workshops as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED plus additional vocational training required in drafting and designing basic electrical systems; with three years of electrical installation experience or electrical construction foreman experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be licensed by State of Georgia as a class 2, non-restricted Electrical Contractor. Must be certified as an Electrical Inspector by the International Code Council within twelve (12) months from employment date. Must possess' a valid driver's license.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:15 AM - 4:00 PM  ; Work Location: 5515 Abercorn St. 

This is a critical workforce position.

 This position has been designated as a safety sensitive position.

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.  The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores.
