Studio Lab Classroom

Purpose:

1. Build teacher support and sustainability for continued program implementation
2. Create opportunities for teachers to further develop teacher-leadership skills
3. Establish a culture of peer observations across the district

Responsibilities:

In addition to their professional duties as classroom teachers, the Studio Laboratory Classroom Teacher will have two main responsibilities:

1. Establishing and maintaining his/her classroom to serve as a laboratory classroom to be a resource to their elementary colleagues within their buildings and across the district.

The laboratory classroom will be utilized to support the professional growth of colleagues by using strategies including but not limited to:

• Demonstrate effective teaching practices in alignment with the current math, science, or writing programs
• Visually showcase teaching strategies and tools
• Create a personalized schedule for hosting classroom visits
• Create a welcoming and open environment for teacher reflection and growth
• Serve as early implementers of new curriculum and technology
• Foster collaboration and teacher leadership

1. Work two additional hours per month to further the growth of their colleagues' practice. Specific responsibilities may include:

• Demonstrate lessons

• Explore emerging instructional practices, tools or techniques
• Reflect on and debriefing own lessons with colleagues and debriefing a visit from a colleague, etc.
• Co-facilitate Monday Content Meetings and/or Faculty/Building Meetings
• Participate in professional leaning group meetings

Qualifications:

1. Excellent track record in building collegiality and collaboration
2. Principal endorsement
3. Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in elementary teaching and learning
4. Willingness to participate in outside professional development
5. Certified Elementary Teacher (Pre K - 3; 1 - 6)

$1000 per year ($500 for the 17 – 18 school year)
