JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The City is recruiting to hire seasonal help to support the various workgroups within the Public Works Maintenance Operations Center, including: Fleet, Stormwater, Streets, Wastewater, and Water.

JOB DUTIES - Duties for these positions may include but are not limited to:- Performing routine tasks such as weed eating, raking, edging, shoveling and other means of mechanical vegetation control
- Litter pick-up
- Cleaning and repairing trails and grounds
- Performing various maintenance at public facilities
- Traffic control in a work zone of a city right-of-way
- Cleaning and painting fire hydrants and/or roadway curbs
- Installing water meters
- Assisting employees with various maintenance tasks including: washing, vacuuming and detailing vehicles
- Assisting with vehicle transports
UPON CLOSER LOOK
HOURS and DURATION:
- Monday – Friday (40 hrs. /wk.), generally 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Positions start April through June dependent upon specific work group needs
- All positions are scheduled to end no later than October 31, 2018
- Positions are limited to working no more than six (6) months or 1040 work hours per calendar year
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required
- Experience in public works maintenance, general maintenance, or other related work experience is preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of/experience with relevant power and hand tools is desired
LICENSES and REQUIREMENTS:- Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire
- Must have a driving record that meets City standards
- Possession of a valid flagging card and/or an adult first aid/CPR card is desirable
- Successful applicants must provide own steel-toed, safety boots (City will provide 50% toward that purchase, not to exceed $100.)

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Outdoor work environment subject to seasonal heat and adverse weather conditions
- driving a vehicle and operating equipment to conduct work
- exposure to traffic, noise, hazardous materials and fumes
- Incumbents are required to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, stand, and/or walk over rough and uneven ground
- Position requires physical stamina, manual dexterity, hearing and visual acuity
