Class Summary
Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. The Grade for this position is for Grade C45 (1).
Department Information: The Department of Information Technology Services consists of four Divisions: Enterprise Applications/Development, Infrastructure/Operations, Financial Management Office/Admin and Business Strategic Services.
Division Information: The Infrastructure & Operations Support Division provides services in the areas of Desktop Support, Data Center Operations, Systems and Storage Administration, Network and Telecommunications infrastructure support, and Information Security. The staff supports over 4500 personal computers, approximately 800 Microsoft Servers, 110 physical network locations, and over 4500 telephony devices throughout the County. We are dedicated to providing technologies for an efficient, secure and innovative client environment.
Position Description:
The Senior Network Administrator position is responsible for supporting the core and data center networks, and providing related security services for the Gwinnett County network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have solid communication skills and be able to mentor and manage junior employees in a fast paced and changing environment. This position will be participating in the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links, including routers, switches, VPN connectivity, firewalls, intrusion prevention, network monitoring tools, etc. This position will work with both with edge environments and in the data centers as part of a team in conjunction with other Network Team members. This position will also diagnose, resolve and document network related issues in a timely and accurate manner, while ensuring minimal downtime, and respond to system emergencies as required. The incumbent will also be required to be on-call after hours, weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule with other team members.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible, professional level analyst and systems experience in a large scale Information Technology environment, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully preform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Preferred Experience:- Extensive experience implementing network and security devices, including, but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, Intrusion Prevention devices, and load-balancing.
- Identify, design, and implement network technologies to meet the future needs of the enterprise, including, core, distribution, and access layers.
- Identify and make improvements to the existing network environment by analyzing system performance and optimizing existing strategies and technologies based on workloads.
- Respond to security events both independently and as part of an Incident Management Team.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting.
- Facility Cabling/Cabinet/Rack Installation
- Remote Access and Virtual Private Network (VPN) Services

- Perform Core Network Traffic/Health Monitoring
- Perform Core Network Capacity Planning and Management services
- Extensive knowledge of EIGRP, BGP protocols
- Strong Layer 1-3 knowledge
- Multicast
- Cisco 9300 Series firewall experience a huge plus
- Cisco Prime Infrastructure 4.2/Prime 2.X/Prime 3.X
- Cisco ISE (Network Access Control)
