The City of Pasadena is seeking a skilled, diligent and energetic Risk and Insurance Administrator who will provide excellent service to internal and external customers. The qualified candidate will have the distinct opportunity to manage the day-to-day management of government tort claims and recovery activities as well as make sure the City is properly insured. Additionally, they will work closely with both the Workers Compensation Division and the Safety Division of the Human Resources Department. The ideal candidate should have a command of handling insurance and claims matters, enjoy planning and organizing a wide variety of risk management activities, supervising a capable Insurance and Claims Specialist and developing cooperative relationships.

Essential Functions

- Plans, directs, develops, implements, and coordinates the work of the Liability, Claims and Insurance Division, including general liability, property and general insurance administration, loss control and loss prevention. Independently determines time, place and sequence of operations and oversees the execution.
- Purchases and Renews Insurance Policies for City wide programs.
- Handles Liability Claims Against the City.
- Reviews insurance submission for contracts, requisitions, permits, RFPs, etc. to make sure insurance submitted by third parties is in compliance with City's requirements
- Fields public complaints and inquiries; performs fact-finding activities involving the collection, examination, evaluation and interpretation of facts and information submitted through the claims process.
- Preserves evidence; orders payment of claims and prepares releases; prepares and sends notices of insufficiency; orders reject notices and reviews; interviews witnesses.
- Works closely with the City's attorneys regarding claims, liability and insurance matters.
- Supervises assigned staff .

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Business law, Economics or related field AND
- Four years in the administration and supervision of a risk and claims management program preferably in a local government agency.
