Vancouver Parks and Recreation programs utilize bus drivers, who have valid CDL license, to transport youth on field trips at any one of our Youth, Teen, Playground or Sensory Camp programs.
Schedule: M-F 8 am to 5 pm; schedule varies depending on camp/program
Pay Range: $15.14 - $18.00 per hour
Camp dates:
June 25 through August 31, 2018. Finalized work schedule and field trip itinerary will be determined in early to mid-June.

- Communicate and work well with all program participants, other city staff, parents and any individuals contacted in the course of work.
- Must be constantly interacting with participant(s). There are too many opportunities for behavior problems to not be attentive at all times.
- Must take initiative to help where needed; will be assigned to help with a group on field trips.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding program guidelines in a positive, professional manner.
- Be aware of and utilize proper safety precautions in all aspects of this job.
- Assist with administrative functions such as, making weekly/monthly reports on incidents, bus log, vehicle checklist and mileage log, making accident/discipline reports regarding assigned participant(s)/group (and communicating these reports to the site leader).
- Assist in developing positive public relations.
- Attend staff meetings and required trainings.
- Assist in providing a safe program and environment for participants and staff. Understand and implement City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation Department operating principles, policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as required through assigned program(s).
- Prepare and review routes to given field trip destinations prior to field trip. Discuss with site leader(s)/appropriate staff.
- Submit timesheets/paperwork per required guidelines and deadlines in staff handbook.
- Be responsible for assisting with group activities once at field trip locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Must have background/experience working with assigned population (Youth 5-10 yrs., Teens 11-15 yrs., youth with disabilities 5-12 yrs). Previous experience working with people with special needs is required.
- A combination of education, training and experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work may be considered on a case by case basis.
- Must be 24 years or older.
- Current CDL license and proof of insurance.
- Current CPR/First Aid card required by the day of scheduled work assignment.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Bloodborne pathogen training.
- Current Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training or ability to acquire within 30 days.
- Additional training/certification as required by department or position provided at no charge, but actual training time is not paid time (condition of employment).
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships with the public, program participants, other city employees and other individuals contacted within the course of work.
- Monitor and interact with a large, diverse group of participants.
- Incorporate assigned participant(s) into group activities.
- Be aware of and respond to each participant's physical and emotional needs.
- Simplify complex tasks to meet participant's needs.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to listen and carry-out instructions both written and verbal.
- Comply with policies and procedures of Parks and Recreation programs/area of assignment.
- Work a flexible schedule.
