Description
The City of Plymouth is now accepting applications for Seasonal Streets Maintenance workers to join our Public Works Streets Division team. This is a great opportunity to gain relevant municipal public works streets experience and a very good job for those seeking short-term employment. The seasonal Maintenance Worker position is scheduled 40 hours/week from April to October, weather dependent.
Position Overview
The Seasonal Streets Maintenance Worker performs under little or no direct supervision a wide variety of street and right-of-way maintenance functions using hand, power, and motorized equipment in a manner which will ensure safe, economical, effective, and timely results.Essential Functions
Asphalt street repair and maintenance.
- Prepares street for bituminous patching or overlaying, i.e., sweeping, milling, squaring edges, and tacking.
- Hauls materials for street repairs.
- Rakes and/or compacts asphalt for optimal, rideability and longevity.
- Protects works site/directs traffic according to policy and procedures.
- Utilizes appropriate equipment effectively, i.e., backpack blowers, skid loaders, rollers, and compactors.
- Upon completion, leaves work site neat and clean, i.e, sweep, pick up asphalt chunks, remove signage.
- Performs or assists in getting all needed tools and equipment ready for each job before leaving the maintenance building.
Equipment uses and operations.
- Performs CDL inspections/pre-operation checks; including, but not limited to fluid levels, lights, tires.
- Ensures cleanliness of equipment inside and out during and after use.
- Reports all equipment maintenance needs using "Vehicle Repair Order/CDL Book" to equipment supervisor or immediate supervisor.
- Reports all equipment damage and accident to supervisor immediately.
- Makes minor equipment repairs and adjustments as capable or as assigned.
- Performs all pre-operational checks and maintenance according to the manufacturer recommendations on all non CDL vehicles.
Other work including, but not limited to:
- Roadside mowing.
- Right-of-way cleaning and maintenance, i.e., trash pickup, sod repair.
- Tree trimming and removal.
- Dig cemetery graves.
- Fabrication and building using welder, torches, carpenter tools, etc.
- Materials, handling, hauling and inventory by hand or using equipment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Relevant experience related to construction or maintenance required.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position in varying weather conditions.
Desired Qualifications- Class B CDL or Class A CDL preferred
