Job Responsibilities
THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING. ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY MAY APPLY.
Assists the Tele-Communications Supervisor in monitoring and supervising the complete operation of a DPS/Tele-Communications Center. Supervises the work of Tele-Communications Operators. Evaluates the performance to ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the division, FCC, FBI/NCIC, SLED/CJICS and EPD.
Operates radios and Tele-Communications equipment for receiving and disseminating information concerning traffic accidents, wanted persons, stolen property, drug activities, criminal history and other matters through SLED/CJICS, FBI/NCIC, and NLETS. Maintains computerized documentation (CAD) of all radio transmissions, accident call in reports, teletype reports, SLED/CJICS, NLETS and NCIC transactions. This is the primary means utilized for documentation of information received.
Conducts EPMS appraisals, interviews, administers corrective discipline interviews as needed, maintains appropriate documentation to support disciplinary actions, and recommends disciplinary action as needed.
Make immediate decisions on a wide variety of information received through various sources and disseminates to field personnel, agency officials, and other law enforcement agencies and maintenance personnel as appropriate.
Performs related work as required and assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- A high school diploma and entry-level work experience with voice communications systems or central switchboard operations. An associate degree in a technical communications discipline may be substituted for the required experience.A high school diploma and four (4) years of experience as a Tele-Communications Operator with the SC Highway Patrol and successful completion of six (6) months as a Tele-Communications Operator IV.

- Required to make independent decisions regarding personnel and job related matters, under the guidance of Tele-Communications Manager. Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
