Responsible for providing advanced technical support for implementing and sustaining preventative maintenance to equipment to ensure that safe and potable drinking water is produced every day of the year.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with the inventory of building, equipment maintenance materials and spare parts
  • Ensures an adequate supply of tools and materials are available for specific jobs
  • Conducts routine inspections of functioning equipment using a variety of testing equipment and records findings in the computerized maintenance management software (CMMS)
  • Corrects equipment deficiencies by selecting the proper manufacturer's recommended maintenance procedures
  • Installs new or modified mechanical process equipment using the manufacturer's recommended installation procedure
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills to maintain, diagnose, and repair pumping equipment, including packing, rebuild kits and pump/motor alignment
  • Performs maintenance with the use of precision, common and power tools
  • Conducts structural maintenance and repair to all plant facilities using welding and other techniques
  • Maintains and repairs all types of valves that include pressure relief, backpressure, gate, butterfly, plug and check valves
  • Assists with writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for various preventative and corrective maintenance tasks
  • Implements safety procedures for confined space entry, electrical and chemical lock out/tag-out
  • Works with the computerized maintenance management software
  • Assists outside contractors as needed so that water treatment is not impaired during repairs or construction
  • Assists Water Plant Operators as needed in the treatment of water (CMMS) to plan, schedule and document regular and preventative maintenance and unscheduled or emergency work orders
  • Assists in training of Water Maintenance Technicians
  • Unloads supplies and equipment using a forklift; cleans tools and equipment; performs custodial duties
  • Performs mowing, weed trimming, edging and general landscaping duties
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies and routing maintenance to perform necessary repairs
  • Uses ladders, scaffolding, and proper safety equipment to perform maintenance on basins, clearwells and elevated storage tanks
  • Inspects clearances of equipment to meet factory specifications
  • Collects water quality samples and performs standardized tests in accordance with environmental regulations
  • Utilizes electronic monitoring equipment for trending analysis
  • Inspects pumps, chemical feeders, hydraulic system components and repairing or replacing damaged or unduly worn parts
  • Installs and repairs various plumbing/piping materials in a professional manner following manufacturer's recommended procedures
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other duties as assigned
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Five years of experience in repair of water plants, industrial mechanical equipment or a related field
  • 124 hours of TCEQ approved training or the ability to obtain a Class "B" TCEQ Surface Water License within the least allowable amount of time possible.
  • Hazardous Material Technician Certification

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Must pass a physical examination
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
  • Must be able to work an on-call rotation
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 12 months of employment
Preferences:

  • Trade school or industrial technology degree
