Major Functions
The County of Volusia is seeking a Summer Camp Nurse for the Parks, Recreation and Culture summer program. This position will be responsible for providing medical care to include, monitoring and administering medication to camp participants located at one of the summer camps in Volusia County. The position requires accompanying the camp participants to all camp related activities (i.e., field trips, etc.)
Travel may be required and mileage will be reimbursed at $0.535/mile.
This is a temporary summer position that runs from June 4, 2018 through July 27, 2018.Illustrative Duties

- Collect, record and label medications.
- Administer and record (administration of) medications as per policies to adhere to medical guidelines.
- Administer basic First Aid/Treatment within the guidelines/orders of the child's physician.
- Assess and document needs and/or complaints of illness.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- **NOTE: This position is posted on a continuous basis and may close without notice.
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida and have a minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.
Note: A social security card is required for payroll purposes.
Must pass required background check (fingerprinting and drug screen) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing techniques with strong nursing assessment skills.
- Knowledge of medical and legal terminology. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of general nursing care.
- Able to understand and carry out detailed instructions of a technical and professional nature.
- Able to utilize insulin pump equipment.
- Knowledge of clinical sanitation and personal hygiene.
- Able to administer routine medications and treatments.
- Able to assist in health related matters.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Able to work under stressful conditions
- Able to interact effectively with others.
- Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Physical Demands: Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Ability to feel, grasp, hear, see, talk, pull, push; finger/manual dexterity. Visual acuity (peripheral vision and depth perception) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.Environmental Demands: Exposure to chemicals, biological materials and drugs, rain, sun, wind, heat, humidity, noise vibrations, odors.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical and medical journals and manuals, abstracts, reports, summaries. Ability to write clearly and concisely letters, memos, reports; ability to relay information to layman. Ability to perform general mathematical functions. Ability to speak publicly and extemporaneously. Ability to identify and resolve problems.
