* Applications submitted without MVR will not be reviewed. *The City of Aurora is currently accepting applications for a Water Flow Control Utility Worker to assist in providing 24/7 operation of Aurora Water's Flow Control Center (FCC). This individual will operate and monitor water systems, acknowledge alarms and dispatch personnel, and monitor remote site security.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- This is a night shift position (7pm to 7am)
- With limited supervision monitors SCADA, maintenance management programs, and other computer programs/software to monitor security, operations, and maintenance of Aurora Water systems which includes raw water supply, water treatment, water transmission and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, wastewater reuse, and storm drain
- Monitors and deploys stored water production reserves to ensure reliable operation of the distribution system
- Performs after-hours emergency dispatch for Aurora Water
- Coordinates with field personnel in emergency situations
- Answers calls from citizens for the City of Aurora
- Transfers calls to various sections in the City of Aurora during normal working hours
- Assist in preparation of required reports and daily logs
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:- At least 6 months experience related to the operation and maintenance of water distribution, or wastewater collection systems
- OR 6 months vocational training in an accredited water training program
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered
Knowledge:- Basic knowledge of the operations of water utility systems, SCADA control, consumption forecasting principles, water and wastewater treatment plant concepts
- Basic water theory and principles (hydraulics, gradients, etc.), distribution system principles, operations, control processes and maintenance requirements
- Basic knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to water/wastewater system operation, personal computers including spreadsheet, word processing and other job related software applications
Abilities:- Work night shifts, overtime, standby, and/or callback duty
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens?
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Operate two-way radios
- Read blue prints and maps, prepare logs and reports, ability to understand and interpret complex data concerning the flow of water into and throughout the water system, including raw water supply, treatment plants, pumping stations, treated water reservoirs, reuse system, wastewater system and storm drain
- Ability to handle multiple complex situations, solve system problems, coordinate resources
Licenses, Certificates or Equipment Required:- Colorado Class 1 Distribution Certificate or Colorado Class 1 Collections Certificate
- Water certificates from other states will be evaluated on an individual basis
- Colorado Driver's License with a good driving history
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
- Primary sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds
- Occasional lifting and carrying, walking, standing; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard, and flow control center controls
- Foot/eye coordination for operation of motor vehicle
- Vision to read and interpret written reports, and computer screens speech communications for communication with employees and citizens
- Hearing and listening for instructions and warning signals
Work Environment:- Works in a clean comfortable environment, with some exposure to a water treatment facility
- Works shifts, every other weekend, potentially holidays, and possible overtime available
- This position requires the employee to work a twelve (12) hour shift
