- This position is responsible for performing a variety of complex forensic analyses in criminal casework. The incumbent in this position is a crime scene investigator member of the statewide Crime Scene Response Team (CSRT). The incumbent will conduct crime scene investigations as primary investigators, and will work with the CSRT Manager or the Forensic Technical Lead to provide callout coverage, forensic expertise at crime scenes, and technical review of crime scene reports.
The incumbent in this position will respond to crime scenes to perform a variety of investigative tasks, including interpretation and reconstruction of events, taking photographs, detailed notes, preparing scene sketches, identifying and recovering evidence, and preparing detailed reports for court proceedings. Qualifications
- Required:
- A Bachelor's degree in forensic science, natural science, or closely related field which includes a minimum of 20 semester (or 30 quarter) hours of chemistry coursework.
- Three years of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence, which includes testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
- Must have the ability to lead teams and/or independently perform investigations and reconstructions at major, complex crime scenes.
- Must have completed a basic course in bloodstain pattern analysis.
- Must be able to successfully pass a bloodstain pattern analysis proficiency, and perform technical and administrative reviews for reconstruction cases from major, complex crime scenes.
Desired:- Experience as a trainer/mentor for crime scene investigators.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 and Supplemental certification requirements.
- Completion of an advanced bloodstain pattern analysis course and completion of a crime scene reconstruction course.
