Overview
Employment Status: Full-time, probationary "exempt" position.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, Financial Aid Advisor (Student Services Provisional III) is responsible for advising and counseling applicants, parents, and others regarding all aspects of financial aid such as the application process; need calculation, eligibility, awarding, rights and responsibilities of aid recipients, federal and state regulations, and institutional policies and procedures. Other duties include administrative responsibilities for a major institutional aid program and/or campus-based grant programs, participation in financial aid related outreach activities and acting as the liaison between other campus faculty and staff; has; develops policies and procedures and provides training for assigned programs. Acts as the resource specialist for information on scholarship and grant programs, and ensures office compliance to program regulations. The incumbent maintains a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and university policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to financial aid policies and procedures for awarding funds, making award adjustments, and applying professional judgment. Demonstrates the ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Will complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field AND three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. PeopleSoft Financial Aid Software experience desirable. Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of financial aid. General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; and general knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply financial aid rules and regulations and ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; ability to reason logically; ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; ability to recognize diverse populations of value systems and work accordingly; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private/public agencies, committees, and community contacts; ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operations, functions; demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other programs or services. Applicants must possess excellent skills in written communication, public speaking, and supervision.
