About the Position
Job Opportunity
This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant pool to fill temporary vacancies on an as needed basis for the City of Las Vegas. The departments will refer to the pool of applications on file, as needed, to fill vacancies. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements of the position will remain in the pool for 4 months.
This is an hourly level position in the Substitute Program - Clerical. The assigned duties for this position varies depending on the designated department. The substitute program provides a pool of workers with a variety of skills to work short term assignments (6 months or less) throughout the city. Individuals are paid on an hourly basis and are not eligible for the city benefit package. The grade of this position ranges from HY.4 to HY.10.

- Some assignments require the ability to type 35 net words per minute.
What criteria will be used to determine the "most qualified" applicants?
The department will evaluate an applicant's experience listed on the application as it relates to the essential functions of the position. The supplemental questions will be used to evaluate certain experience, skills, and abilities.

Position Summary
This position performs routine clerical duties in support of the department operations, acts as a receptionist, assist the public, and provide basic sorting, filing, copying or clerical accounting services. Clerical duties may vary with each assignment.
Essential Functions- Performs a variety of general clerical or record keeping support including filing, data entry, and copying.
- Type memos, reports, and documents as needed.
- May perform duties which involve cash handling.
- May perform receptionist duties.
- May assist in ordering and inventorying office supplies.
- May provide customer service to internal and external customers in-person and by telephone and answer general questions.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- One year of clerical experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Some assignments require the ability to type 35 net words per minute.

- Clerical and receptionist procedures and systems
- Knowledge of common office software, such as email, word processing, spreadsheet and database.

- Personal computer usage, including navigation techniques in a Windows-based environment at an experienced level.
