Job Responsibilities

The Department of Mental Health is a drug-free workplace.  All candidates will be required to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test. 

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

Perform professional grounds maintenance tasks as assigned on all South Carolina Department of Mental Health campuses.

Complete detailed landscaping tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Make requests of needed supplies or equipment. Operate assigned vehicle or equipment in a safe and courteous manner. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and custodial or grounds keeping experience directly related to the area of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

An understanding of the grounds maintenance process and a desire to provide an excellent finished product. Operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as ZTR movers, small tractors, string trimmers, edgers, hedge trimmers, etc. Ideal candidate would have significant experience in all phases of grounds and landscape work. Candidate will be expected to know proper tree and shrub pruning practices, be knowledgeable in the safe operation of chain saws and other pruning equipment. 

Additional Comments

Must be able to work overtime and weekends when necessary. Must be able to work in weather extremes (heat, cold, snow, ice, rain, etc.) and on-call to provide emergency services
