Job Summary

THE RICE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO FILL ONE FEMALE CORRECTION OFFICE POSITION AND COMPILE AN ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR FUTURE MALE AND FEMALE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER OPENINGS.
The Correctional Officer performs activities that create and maintain a safe and secure environment for the residents of the Rice County Jail and Annex, staff, and general public who enter the jail facility. Generates essential data and records for courts, administration, local, state, and federal agencies. Examples of Duties
· Primary supervision of inmates in a linear and direct supervision facility.
· Exercise independent judgment in emergencies.
· Accurately query and process information using various computer systems.
· Maintain detailed and accurate jail log.
· Monitor compliance with rules and regulations governing work release inmates.
· Perform booking, receiving, and processing of all inmates for two facilities.
· Receive and record fees and monies.
· Maintain effective communication with the courts, community corrections, probation officers, lawyers, supervisors, main jail, and inmates.
· Assist general public with a variety of services.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED, training beyond high school that can be obtained in one year or less, and six months related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be 18 years of age or older. Valid driver's license required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree or higher in corrections, criminology, criminal justice, psychology, social work, sociology, or law enforcement. Previous correctional experience. Working knowledge of computer systems including MS Office, jail booking system (Mugshot), Portal 100, Indentix, CJIIN, Odyssey and video surveillance equipment. Bilingual in Spanish, Somali or Sign Language.

- SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Body searches and physical contact may be required with inmates.
HOURS: Rotating shift basis, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
