The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Public Health Nurses II who provide assessments of individuals, families and communities. Duties include case management, including coordinating and assisting with access to care; developing treatment plans; providing consultation on medical, dental, and behavioral health assessments; acting as a nurse liaison with public and private agencies; providing assessments and referral for school district students; and conducting disease control measures. There are vacancies in Family Health Services and California Children Services (CCS). The resulting eligible list may be used to fill other vacancies as they occur.

 
Family Health Services Section
Family Health Services Section (FHSS) specializes in many dynamic public health nursing programs and includes Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care, Rx 4 Kids, Children Screening, Assessment, Referral and Treatment, Black Infant Health, and Maternal Child and Adolescent Health.  FHSS works in partnership with public and private agencies to provide nursing case management, care coordination and consultation.

California Children Services (CCS) program
The California Children Services (CCS) division of Public Health is a statewide program that arranges, directs, and pays for medical care, equipment, and rehabilitation, when these services are authorized for children and young adults under 21 years of age, who have CCS-eligible medical conditions and whose families are unable to pay for all or part of their care.  CCS defines eligibility and selects the most qualified professionals to treat the child's CCS eligible condition.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
1) Travel throughout the county is required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation. 
2) Applicants selected for these positions must pass a background investigation and verification of employment history and education.
3)  Additional training/coursework may be required.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:  Applicants must meet one of the following options:

Option 1: Three (3) months of experience as a Public Health Nurse.

Option 2: Three (3) months of experience in home health or home visiting as a Registered Nurse.

-AND- 

License and Certification: Must possess and maintain all items listed below:
  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Valid California Public Health Nurse certification
  • Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate

Desired Qualifications

CCS Program: Experience working with pediatric populations (e.g., Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), which includes inpatient/outpatient intensive care management.

English/Spanish bilingual skills are highly desired. For consideration, applicants must indicate bilingual ability on the application. Employees receive additional compensation for utilizing such skills when allocated to a bilingual position, as approved by the department. Bilingual testing may be required.
 
Candidates possessing computer skills in Microsoft applications are preferred.
