(NO CAMP THE WEEK OF JULY 4TH)

Salary: $7.75 - $9.50 Hourly (Based on Experience)

Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Operations maintains and operates the county's award-winning park system and provides high quality parks and recreation facilities, innovative programs, and quality services to meet the broad-based needs of Gwinnett's diverse population, fostering a sense of community, creating a safe and secure environment, and enhancing Gwinnett's quality of life.

This position orients, monitors and leads children through the day-to-day operation of camp, including set up and clean-up of equipment and supplies for camp activities. Candidates must be effective communicators with children and adults with the ability to transition groups of children effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years old.
CPR and First Aid certification is required prior to the first day of camp
Must be able to swim
Previous experience working in a day camp setting or teaching children is preferred
Effective communicator with children and adults
Ability to transition groups of children effectively

The Summer Camp Counselor will be responsible for:

Helping to develop and implement lesson plans
Leading children through the day-to-day operation of camp, including set up and clean-up of equipment and supplies for camp activities
Maintaining equipment and inventory
Leading various activities, games and crafts for campers
Enforcing rules and regulations
Providing first aid treatment as necessary
Reporting and appropriately dealing with discipline problems, accidents, and other incidents
Ensuring all attendance and camp records are completed
Communicating all issues with Camp Director and Program Supervisor

Physical Requirements:

The work involves direct involvement with day camp participants which typically requires bending, crouching, stooping, standing for long periods of time, considerable walking and may require intermittent lifting of objects of a minimum of 25 pounds. The work is performed indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather. Must be able to work the entire summer season. Must be able to swim.
