Multnomah County Health Department is seeking for full time Mental Health Consultants to serve in the Corrections Health located at the Justice Center. This recruitment may be used to fill other future vacant positions.
Depending upon assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties, which are a representative sample of the level of work appropriate to this classification.
A successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:- Provides direct services of assessment, crisis intervention, counseling case management, and discharge planning for the mentally ill client population in jail.
- Indirect services include case consultation, group facilitation, education, research and selected assigned administrative and patient care duties.
- Receive clients on referred, emergent or follow up basis; responsible for initial psychiatric/psychological workup; accurately document client's care through the use of SOAP charting, at the time of client visit; formulates definitive assessment and treatment plan, utilizing DSM IV diagnostic criteria.
- Provide direct patient care crisis intervention, counseling and client education, including how to access community resources.
- Participate actively in the Mental Health Team, consulting with providers, nurses, and monitoring client response to treatment; and in court process, when subpoenaed, to explain client's mental health status.
- Work closely with Correction Deputies in their day -to-day dealings with mentally ill clients.
- Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling is highly desirable. (CADC III preferred).

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the mental health field with major coursework in social science, or a related field demonstrating the capacity for the required knowledge and skills to meet provider Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) credentialing requirements as required by Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) to treat adults. See qualified degrees listed below:
- Graduate degree in psychology.
- Graduate degree in social work.
- Graduate degree in recreational therapy
- Graduate degree in art therapy.
- Graduate degree in music therapy.
- Graduate degree in a behavioral science field
- Bachelor's degree in nursing AND licensed by the State or Oregon
- Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy AND licensed by the State of Oregon
- Two (2) years of postgraduate professional experience in the aforementioned areas as a QMHP under (OARs).
- May require valid drivers' license.
- Previous work experience as a case manager or transition planner is desired
- Previous work experience in a corrections setting
