Overview
THIS WORK MATTERS!
This recruitment will be used to fill a .75 FTE (30 hours a week) float position.
WIC is a program focusing on nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health and diet screening, growth monitoring, and program referrals as well as providing monthly food benefits for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to 5 years of age. WIC serves families from many different cultural and ethnic traditions, languages, backgrounds and abilities. It is designed to promote positive health outcomes, strengthen life course nutrition and health, and reduce health disparities in the populations we serve.
As the WIC Dietitian you will:- Provide direct high-risk nutrition counseling, education, care plans, and referrals to WIC participants
- Use dietary biochemical, medical and anthropometric data to assess medical nutrition needs
- Provide nutrition/diet counseling and care plans based upon assessment of dietary, medical and lifestyle factors
- Provide referrals to the community as appropriate and serve as a consultant to WIC and Health Department staff
- Provide breastfeeding support, education, and referrals to WIC participants
- Provide services using participant centered communications skills in a culturally competent manner
To Qualify
We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:- Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nutrition or a related field, supplemented by an internship or advanced degree, as required for registration eligibility; AND
- Registered Dietitian or the ability to obtain registration within six months of hire date
- Possession of current American Heart Association BLS/CPR card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date
- Ability to speak, read and write Spanish and English fluently (language proficiency testing will be required.)
You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Please clearly explain on your application how you meet any of the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills.- Minimum two years of professional work experience in the nutrition field
- Experience in WIC or other maternal child health programs
- Experience and knowledge with pediatric, prenatal, and postpartum nutrition, and breastfeeding education and support
- Positive experience with teamwork and working on diverse teams
- Cultural competency and experience with diverse populations
- Knowledge of popular education or participant centered education programs
- Communication skills of active and compassionate listening, problem solving, and motivational interviewing
- Ability to manage time and handle stress in a fast paced clinic environment
