Equipment Operator I (DOT)

This position is responsible for operating a variety of light equipment and vehicles and performing manual labor on a paving, construction or maintenance crew.  Moderately heavy equipment may be driven on an assignment or temporary basis.

 

Operates landscape and maintenance equipment such as a tractor with a bush hog or landscape box attachment; drives a small dump truck, pick-up truck, or a flat-bed truck to deliver materials or tools to job sites; operates light construction or maintenance equipment such as a small steel wheel roller or a power broom; performs manual labor work such as shoveling asphalt and dirt, laying pipes, building culverts and bridges; removes trash, limbs and debris from county roads, culverts, creeks, drainage areas; serves as flagger on assigned projects; serves as member of an emergency crew in response to storm damages and other emergencies; performs related work as required.

Graduation from High School or GED Equivalent.

Ability to operate and maintain public works equipment; skill in the operation and application of hand and power tools; ability to perform heavy manual labor; skill in driving and operating assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to effectively work as a member of a crew.
