Description
The Arapahoe County Department of Human Services builds strong communities by promoting the safety, independence and stability of individuals and families. The Child and Adult Protection Services (CAPS) Division is looking for volunteers to work alongside our staff to help us in working towards our mission and providing excellent customer service to community members and families in Arapahoe County. We have positions that can accommodate daytime, evening, or weekend hours and a range of interests and skills.
Volunteers make a difference in the lives of community members, families and children in need in Arapahoe County. We are currently recruiting for the following positions: Family and Staff Support Services, Foster Family Respite/Support Assistance, Kidz Night Out, and Information Ambassadors.Duties
The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the various volunteer positions and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the volunteer position at any time.
Family and Staff Support Services: The Family and Staff Support Services Volunteer provides a variety of support and assistance to children and families that are clients of Arapahoe County Child Protection, as well as staff working with these children and families. We ask that volunteers in this position commit to one 4-8 hour shift a week from 10:00 am-6:00 pm, Monday-Saturday. The position is located in our office (14980 East Alameda Drive Aurora CO), but may require some travel throughout the metro-Denver area.
Duties include, but are not limited to:- Providing temporary care and support for children that have just been removed from an unsafe situation (to be provided at the Aurora office)
- Providing temporary care and support for children while parents/caregivers attend important meetings at the Department
- Providing administrative support and assistance to CAPS staff
- Helping transport children to and from visitations with their parents at the Child Protection Office
- Providing assistance and helping with Parenting Time groups and the program in general (such as maintaining and cleaning the Parenting Time visitation rooms)
- Collecting, sorting, organizing and distributing valuable community donations that are provided to children and families in need of emergency clothing, diapers, toiletries and more (Bear Necessities Closet)
Kidz Night Out: Kidz Night Out is a fun night for children that have open cases with CAPS. It is designed to give children (ages six months to 18) a fun, constructive night out while giving foster/kinship families and parents a night to themselves. Volunteers engage with the children through play and structured activities; we also ask that you help with set up and cleanup. This program is offered two evenings a month - one Wednesday and one Friday.
Information Ambassador: Volunteers are needed to greet and direct visitors who are seeking public assistance benefits from the Human Services Department. Volunteers will answer questions, assist residents with applications for assistance programs, and be a friendly face for the County. This position is at our Aurora or Littleton offices.Requirements
Age 21 or older.
Good interpersonal skills.
A desire to work with some of our County's most vulnerable adults, children and families.
For some positions a basic familiarity with computers and common office software packages are essential.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Commit to volunteer in the position for a minimum of six months to one year.Supplemental Information
This in an unpaid volunteer opportunity with Arapahoe County Department of Human Services.
Volunteers will receive the training and supervision necessary to handle the job and work together with staff to provide a meaningful and rewarding experience for the public and the volunteer.
