THE POSITION

Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Under the direction of an assigned Child Nutrition Manager, assist in quantity preparation and serving of foods at an assigned school site; assist in maintaining food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Child Nutrition Assistant I classification is the entry-level class in this series.  Incumbents perform routine food service activities at an assigned school site.  The Child Nutrition Assistant II classification is the experienced level class responsible for more technical food service activities such as cooking and baking.  The Child Nutrition Assistant III classification transports food, and/or oversees snack bar operations at an assigned school.

TESTING INFORMATION

The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description.
This is a continuous recruitment, applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will receive an examination notification via email. Exam notifications will not be sent until after a testing date has been established.  A photo ID is required for admittance to the exam.

The Written test (weighted 100%) is not yet scheduled.
All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
 
Veterans' Preference - Veterans with 30 days or more of active service during designated war period dates may be eligible to claim additional veterans' points (5 points; 10 points for disabled veterans) by submitting their DD214 with the employment application.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
Step 1: $13.09 (initial placement)
Step 2: $13.86 (6 months)
Step 3: $14.64 (1 year)
Step 4: $15.50 (2 years)
Step 5: $16.42 (3 years)
All new hires will be placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule and will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.

Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 0.95% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 3.85% at 9 years, 6.83% at 14 years, 9.90% at 19 years, 13.06% at 24 years.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)
Employment Verification:  Federal law requires that the District verify the identity and employment authorization of each person hired, complete and retain a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, and refrain from discriminating against individuals on the basis of national origin or citizenship.
 
Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, may be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis.
 
Physical Exam:  The District reserves the right to require a prospective employee to pass a job related physical examination.
 
Conviction Information and Fingerprints State law requires that all selected candidates be fingerprinted to check for and/or verify conviction records.  California Education Code prohibits a governing board of a school district from employing a person until the Department of Justice completes its check of the criminal history file (and the Federal Bureau of Investigation when required).  California Education Code provisions prohibit the employment of persons convicted of a violent or serious felony, and also govern the employment of individuals convicted of specified sex and/or controlled substance offenses.  All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application.  A record of conviction will not automatically disqualify an individual from employment.  Failure to disclose any conviction which has not been officially expunged per California Penal Code ยง1203.4, will result in disqualification or dismissal.
 
Other:  Eligibles will be required to provide a current DMV report and/or proof of auto insurance to the Classified Human Resources Department before being certified for a final selection interview for positions that require the employee to drive a district vehicle and/or hold a valid California driver's license.
