Construction Worker

The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance of public roads and storm water infrastructure. This is accomplished by constructing and reconstructing streets, sidewalks, and curbs; cleaning ditch lines; operating hand tools; driving dump trucks, raking asphalt and concrete; maintaining light equipment and vehicles by cleaning and changing oil and oil filters to ensure proper operation' completes other duties as assigned.

Street and Storm Water Maintenance

• Applies sealant material.
• Rebuilds road shoulders.
• Applies asphalt surfaces.
• Reconditions deteriorating sidewalks, curbs, and repairs utility cuts.
• Controls vegetation growth.
• Removes limbs and other material from creek banks.
• Reconstructs basin/manholes and storm drain pipe.

• Drives dump trucks as assigned.
• Operates weed eaters, plate tamps, chainsaws, mixers and other light equipment.
• Operates all applicable hand and power tools.
• Performs preventative maintenance on all assigned light equipment.

• Assists in other department division activities such as special events, post storm cleanup and inclement weather cleanup.

Education and Experience:

• Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency and
• one year experience required.

Valid N.C. Driver's License (Class C) at hire.
Valid N.C. CDL Class B operator's license or the ability to obtain a Class "B" CDL within 6 months of hire.
