Description

This position will be responsible for office duties as well as light automotive work.  The office duties will include data entry, filing, answering the phone, scheduling appointments.  The automotive work will include oil changes, replacing brakes and other preventative maintenance. 

The vacancy will work out of the Main Garage in Maryland Heights. The starting salary will be between $12.51 - $15.01 per hour and will be based on experience and qualifications.

Examples of Duties

  • Responsible for operating vehicles to pickup and deliver parts.
  • Monitoring, maintaining and updating reports, schedules, parts inventories, logs, work orders, lists, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Answering and directing calls by taking messages.
  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance and minor repairs such as oil changes and chassis lubrications, brake repairs, transmission servicing, replacement of hoses and belts and cooling system servicing on County vehicles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in general automotive maintenance, vehicle service or garage operations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A current valid drivers license is required.  A Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within the first six months of employment.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENTA selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.  The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade.  A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a permanent part time, full time, term or on-call position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.  Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.  The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
