The Opportunity:
The Washington State Ferries (WSF) has substantial opportunities for journey-level electricians with exceptional troubleshooting skills. The ideal candidate should be prepared to perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs of marine motors and controllers as well as marine propulsion generators and alternators and a wide variety of other equipment on vessels and ferry terminals. The incredible array of work on a vast variety of vessels and equipment will make everyday a little different and enhance your maritime electrician skills making you a very valuable electrician.
The Eagle Harbor facility is located within walking distance of the Bainbridge ferry terminal.
The ferry system is fortified by a resilient maintenance team that supports the largest ferry system in the United States. Serving eight counties within Washington and the Province of British Columbia in Canada the system has 10 routes and 20 terminals that are served by 22 vessels and approximately 1,800 amazing employees.

Note: There are both written and practical pre-hire tests that include diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical system problems and electrical theory during the qualification process.
This position will perform the following work in various areas:- Vessels: Perform routine and emergency repairs of marine motors and controllers. Test and repair marine diesel electric propulsion systems and central switchboards. Repair marine internal communication systems, navigation lights, power supplies, battery systems for engines, and lighting systems.
- Terminals: Install and repair motors, controllers, communications systems, electronic monitor systems, feeder cables and conduits, repair bridge hoists, power distribution systems, lighting, and communication systems.
- General: Repair, adjust and maintain electric equipment, perform rigging, estimates of time and materials, drive light trucks or vans with tools to remote sites. Work independently, respond to emergency calls. Troubleshoot, diagnose problems and make repairs; adjust and maintain electrical systems, on vessels and at terminals. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
An ideal candidate for this position will have:- Journey-Level experience/status as an electrician.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with boilers, boat davits, steering systems, alarm systems, engine controls, and P.L.C.s.
- Maritime Experience.
- A Transportation Workers' Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
- A forklift certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
- Knowledge of Cathode Protection systems (CAPAC).
- A valid driver's license to travel to various jobsites as needed.
Note:
This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington and the IBEW and you will be expected to register with the union within the first 30 days of employment.
