Description
Advanced and responsible duties of a skilled nature. Leads staff in performing a wide variety of utility maintenance and construction duties. Performs skilled and manual work including the operation and maintenance of construction equipment. Reviews, compiles and submits written records and as built drawings as required. Responsible for obtaining materials, supplies and equipment used by work crew. Performs related work as required following all safety and regulatory requirements. Must understand the requirements of the N.P.D.E.S. permit system and how they apply to the position. Continually looks for ways to maximize team efficiency and work quality. Participates in process improvement teams using Lean/6 Sigma processes. Expected to work overtime to maintain integrity of the Utility. This is an essential position; incumbent will be required to work extended hours during and after hurricanes or other disasters. Must follow safety procedures and promote a safe work environment. Works proactively and provides excellent customer service to internal/external customers. A strong understanding of ethical behavior required. Needs to have an intellectual curiosity and a desire to find answers.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent education required; college course work a plus. Must have at least four years of experience in the operation, maintenance and construction of Stormwater systems. Will obtain a Lean/6 Sigma white belts within one year of hire date. Ability to drive and operate large trucks, boom trucks, front end loaders, and other similar pieces of equipment. Experience in supervising other workers, and in making decisions in the field. Candidates must possess effective communication skills with the ability to speak, write and understand English. Must have knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Office suite and the ability to use personal computers and GIS mapping systems. Must be able to work outdoors with exposure to adverse weather conditions and other hazards such as machinery, wastewater, fumes, chemicals and odors. Some job duties require personal protective equipment. Ability to move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 75 lbs. Labor intensive position with the ability to walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, stoop, push and pull. Specific abilities include hearing, talking, and seeing. Must be physically capable of using respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus. Employee must pass pulmonary function test. Selection process will include an interview and evaluation of software skills, GIS and map reading skills. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Applicants must possess a current FWPCOA "B" Certification at time of application; preference will be given to applicants with higher certificates. At time of application, must possess a valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Drivers License with tanker and air brake endorsements.
