Position Summary
To assist Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys and other office staff in the establishment, modification, and enforcement of child support pursuant to Federal and State Title IV-D laws. Litigation Paralegals are responsible for the preparation of cases for court, the completion of dispositions after the court session and in office enforcement. Litigation paralegals will handle all aspects of court for Paternity and Enforcement cases. Courteous and efficient services to both custodial and non-custodial parents are to be required.

Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities and Tasks in Office:
1. To assist the Deputy Prosecutors as needed in the office, as well as work in a team environment that exists throughout the office.
2. Return all phone calls within 24 hours.
3. Work all File Requests and Transfer files weekly. Cite cases into court in a timely manner.
4. Prepare cases for court two weeks prior to the court date.
A. Ensure all cases are accounted for that appear on the docket.
B. See that all cause numbers and notes for the court are on the docket.
C. Make sure service type has been completed or follow up on results.
D. Make sure that the Bench Warrant stamp has been completed on the inside of the file.
E. Review files and complete court preparation sheets to prepare cases for hearing.
F. Transport the court files to the appropriate person in the time frame given.
5. Complete all dispositions on cases after court within 24 hours. Complete follow up on all cases in court. This includes sending income withholding orders when possible. Completion of updated case information in ISETS and updating case information as needed.
6. Work all mail within 2 days of receipt.
7. Work worklist daily; then prioritize and work weekly
8. Participate in the planning and review of the section's goals as needed. Contribute to the effective and efficient daily operations of the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, Child Support Division through increased and ongoing knowledge of procedures.
9. Ensure that all work is completed in compliance of all applicable local, state, federal and IRS regulations.
10. Abide by all policies and procedures set forth in the Marion County Prosecutor Office's Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.
11. Be punctual and adhere to attendance policies.
12. Maintain a highly professional attitude and appearance. Must be a positive team player and work well with others.
13. Be enthusiastic about learning new skills and procedures.
14. Possess a cheerful and energetic disposition at all times, no matter how stressful the situation may be at times.
15. Ensure that all work is completed in compliance of all applicable local, state, federal and IRS laws and regulations.
16. Additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities and Tasks in Court:
1. To assist the Deputy Prosecutors as needed in court, as well as work in a team environment that exists throughout the courtroom and court office.
2. Make follow up phone calls in court to verify NCP's employment.
3. Professionally address all parties in court, when dismissing Custodial Parents or interviewing both parties.
4. Prepare Child Support Worksheets
A. Ensure all information is accounted for to correctly calculate the figures to input on the worksheet.
5. Meet with the public to assist in completing forms and gathering needed information to be used in court. Complete judgments and agreed entries.
6. Correctly complete continuation court cards for all parties. Make sure that you have the most up-to-date availability
7. Complete bench warrant sheets for court staff
8. Appear professionally dressed in court as a paralegal as assigned.
9. Be punctual and adhere to attendance policies for each court session.
10. Make sure all check-in sheets have been passed out, collected and fully completed.
11. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills Required: High school diploma and/or equivalent required. Paralegal certificate or a college degree is preferred. Ability to efficiently process information and utilize problem solving skills. Time management skills are a must. Ability to manage a large caseload and meet deadlines. Must possess excellent communication and mathematical skills, be organized and able to work independently while handling a large caseload. Need to possess strong computer knowledge and excellent typing skills (35 + WPM). Excellent attendance record. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people as a cooperative unit. Work well with the public and maintain a professional public image. Applicant must be a resident of Marion County at time of hire or willing to relocate to Marion County within six (6) months from the date the position is accepted.
Litigation paralegal must be able to successfully complete a child support worksheet training class based on worksheet completion within the first 6 months of being hired. Litigation paralegal must take periodic in house re-training courses on preparing child support worksheets and successfully complete each re-training course in order to maintain employment as a litigation paralegal.
Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 35lbs or more.
NOTE: The math test given, must be successfully passed during the interview process in order to be considered for the position.
