Position Information
Installs, overhauls, repairs and maintains a variety of equipment at refuse disposal facilities such as transfer stations, landfills and convenience centers; repairs and maintains facilities and appurtenant structures; and performs other related duties as required.

There is one vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, Refuse Collection & Disposal Division. Work involves exposure to obnoxious gases, dust, heat, refuse and sewage, rotating and high speed machines, high pressure hydraulic systems, high voltages, and working at heights. Safety practices and procedures are used. Work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This list may be used for future vacancies in this department.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of tools, materials, and practices used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans, cranes, gasoline engines, conveyor systems; knowledge of machine shop tools, equipment, and materials; knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in building maintenance; the ability to use hand tools and operate shop machinery in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment; the ability to use tools and equipment used in maintaining buildings; and the ability to diagnose defects in mechanical equipment and make repairs independently.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:- Valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
- Possession of a current Certificate of Fitness for Crane and Hoist Operator, prior to completion of probation.

A Refuse Facilities Maintenance Mechanic performs JOURNEY LEVEL skilled work in installing, overhauling, repairing, and maintaining a variety of refuse disposal facilities equipment, including pumps, fans, cranes, gasoline engines, conveyor systems, valves, etc. This position also fabricates and installs steel chutes, access doors, steps, platforms, and equipment housing, and performs building maintenance repairs such as repairs to windows, doors, locks, roofing, etc.
