Description
- Under general supervision, the position maintains and cleans City facilities and areas. Employees in this classification perform semi-skilled work. Position is responsible for operating maintenance tools and equipment within assigned division. Performs related work as directed.
Examples of Duties
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Maintains traffic control around maintenance and construction areas.
- Cleans streets, roads, canals, and other City facilities.
- Repairs streets, sidewalks, canals, curbs, swales, and other City facilities.
- Sweeps/vacuums floors of offices, bathrooms, common areas, and other areas of public buildings and facilities.
- Mops/waxes floors of offices, bathrooms, common areas, and other areas of public buildings and facilities.
- Sprays canals, plants, and vegetation.
- Applies fertilizers, insecticides, and other chemicals to outdoor areas.
- Participates in special projects as assigned.
- Assists with the completion of reports such as daily activity reports, vehicle logs, and others as required by department.
- Assists with maintaining stormwater pump stations including cleaning, painting, servicing/replacing and adjusting components.
- Maintains grounds including replacing earth after excavating, mowing grass, and trimming vegetation.
- Interprets work instructions such as work orders or service requests to plan day's work.
- Performs minor vehicle maintenance such as fueling and washing.
- Performs outdoor construction/modifications such as erecting signs and pouring concrete.
- Performs outdoor maintenance such as repairing roads, sidewalks and other City facilities.
- Assists with completing daily activity reports.
- Actively employs safety processes and procedures while performing job functions.
Minimum Training and Experience
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by at least two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving maintenance or repair of public or private facilities or roads; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Special Requirements- Florida CDL Class B
- Basic Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
Must obtain two (2) of the following licenses within one (1) year of hire based on the needs of the department:- Fertilizing
- Right of Way
- FWPCOA Level C Storm water Aquatics
- Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Pesticide Public Applicator License
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate
- Heavy Equipment Certification
Marginal Functions
- While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.Assists with inventories.Performs minor office functions such as answering phones and copying.Performs related duties as directed.
