DISPATCHER

• Operates radio and related equipment to communicate with drivers in order to facilitate timely pickup and return of residents.
• Dispatches all regular runs to drivers on assigned shift.
• Groups the service requests into the most efficient tours and assigns them to vehicles using appropriate dispatch methods.
• Monitors vehicle locations and movement patterns; adjusts drivers' routes as needed.
• Handles multiple incoming phone calls in conjunction with radio-dispatch communications.
• Inspects trip sheets upon completion, confirms/reviews these with drivers as necessary, and files material.
• Intercepts calls from drivers in the field, if an accident occurs; he/she notifies emergency services/law enforcement agency and instructs the driver as to proper procedure to follow.
• Dispatches equipment for routine repair or maintenance.
• Plans, schedules and assigns drivers to provide transportation for special events, including entertainment, seminars, shopping, athletic events, etc.
• Assists with verification of pickup times the day before scheduled trips.
• Maintains records and handles typing and clerical duties.
• Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software in performing work assignments.
• Gives information to the public, relative to routes, schedules, and lost and found.
• Drives vehicles when necessary.

High School Degree or G.E.D. equivalency; two (2) years of experience as a Dispatcher and two (2) years driving a 45 passenger commercial vehicle.  Must be computer literate. 
 
Special Requirements

• Valid Florida State Driver's License
• Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class B with "P" endorsement

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Performs related duties as directed.
