The department of Water and Power is eager to fill its vacancy for Power Troubleshooter. The ideal candidate will perform skilled emergency maintenance and repair on electrical distribution lines and facilities, restore and maintain light and power services on customers' premises, and perform related tasks as assigned.

- Maintains and repairs electrical distribution and transmission lines in restoring service; responds to fire and police calls, as well as emergency calls from residential, commercial and industrial customers; locates and corrects trouble on primary distribution system and secondary power and lighting lines both overhead and underground.
- Inspects operating condition of transformers; replaces fuses; and tests house circuits.
- Advises occupants on proper safety practices; clears hot wires that could endanger public safety.
- Shuts off service for non-payment of bills.
- Makes work estimates; keeps records and makes reports of activities.
- Under direct supervision, may operate re-closers as required, and circuit breakers in emergency situations.

Qualification Guidelines
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance would qualify. For example: two years of experience as a journey level Power Line Mechanic or journey level Cable Splicer.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will consist of any combination of training and experience evaluation, written exam, interview panel, and department-level interviews.

There is currently one vacancy in the Water and Power department, Power Delivery division.
PROBATIONARY WORK TEST PERIOD =One Year
FLSA = Non-Exempt.
UNIT= IBEWSpecial Requirements
Must have or obtain a Class B California's driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Per DMV regulations Air Brakes Drivers License Endorsements are required within 60 days of appointment and as condition of continued employment. Employees must pass an annual SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) fitness test. Must be available for 24-hour emergency call out.
Due to responsibilities of this classification, employee must be able to respond to call-out site within 40 minutes of receiving the call.
