Purpose of Position:
This position works as a part of a team to provide restorative care for residents, to promote the highest quality of life. Incumbent will transport residents to off-site medical appointments and when not on medical transports, will, under instructions from professional and technical nursing staff, perform sub professional nursing services to residents. provide for the personal needs of the residents by assisting with their daily living activities and self-care with duties that may include, bathing, dressing and grooming.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Employment Requirements:
This position is designated safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is subject to criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training is required. Must possess or obtain within 4 months of employment, a current Certified Nursing Certificate from the State of New Mexico as a continued condition of employment. Must attend Resident Transport training upon hire.

Working Conditions:
Position will perform work in a long term care facility for Veterans. Position will require driving a State of New Mexico owned motor vehicle and will be used to drive long distances, with extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, lifting, pushing and bending. Job duties are considered heavy duty and work is physically and emotionally demanding. Moderate noise levels and stressful situations are frequently encountered. Incumbent may be exposed to some health hazards including but not limited to exposure to resident illness, potentially aggressive residents, chemical sensitivity, and possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Working hours may include weekends, holidays, callbacks and overtime. Essential functions of the job and physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources Office.
