Facility Maintenance Technician I

Under general supervision, performs basic, routine maintenance and manual labor tasks at different Military facilities, grounds, and equipment maintenance activities. Incumbent works individually, as a member of a work crew, or while assisting a skilled maintenance technician; performs related work as assigned.

Job location is the Grand Island Readiness Center, 3090 East Airport Road.

Work schedule to be determined. 

Assists in performing routine maintenance, repair, and construction duties, such as painting, plastering, minor carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing duties.
Inspects components of the facility, including but not limited to, control panels and gauges for pneumatic, electric and electronic systems, such as HVAC, heat pumps, boilers, air handling units, water heaters/softeners, power generating equipment to prevent system failure. Performs minor repairs and adjustments on equipment.
Maintains the area surrounding the outside of the facility including snow and ice removal from the parking lot and sidewalks.
Mows, trims and performs basic landscaping duties.
Performs and documents preventative maintenance and repairs for systems, equipment and machinery. Changes and replace filters monthly/quarterly.
Maintains floors throughout the facility, including but not limited to, mopping, buffing, scrubbing, polishing, and vacuuming. Follows sanitation guidelines in restroom and shower facilities.
Operates commercial cleaning equipment and mixes cleaning solutions. Collects and disposes of trash.
Occasional instate travel required.

REQUIREMENTS:  No specific education or experience is required for this class.

PREFERRED:  Experience in basic maintenance skills is highly desired. Other/Special Note: Position requires bending/moving/carrying/pushing/pulling; lifting up 50 lbs., working from ladders or other heights, working in confined spaces and working in extreme/inclement weather.  Prior to any job offer being made, all certifications, diplomas and references will be verified and any falsehoods will disqualify the applicant. OTHER:  Valid driver's license or able to provide independent authorized transportation. 

Knowledge of: the standard tools and practices of various building and mechanical trades; the methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work; the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building and mechanical trades; preventative maintenance procedures used in building maintenance operations; Skill in: the use of a variety of basic hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Ability to: perform semi-skilled maintenance work in a variety of building and mechanical trades; troubleshoot and identify problems, understand and follow instructions; use/operate hand and power tools and power equipment in a safe manner; perform manual labor; care for/maintain hand and power tools essential for maintenance and repair work; work in tight spaces and at some distance from the ground.
