Purpose
This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of water treatment plant mechanical systems.
Essential Job Functions
Assembles, overhauls, and repairs gasoline and diesel powered equipment.
Changes chlorine containers weekly; performs specialized maintenance and repairs on liquid chlorine systems, including chlorinators, evaporators, and vacuum regulators.
Cleans chemical solution tanks and piping.
Performs maintenance and repairs on Trac-Vac system; changes boots, fittings, hoses, and control valves.
Performs specialized welding, burning, cutting, and fabrication.
Changes out gas bottles and supplies meter stations with spares.
Performs general and specialized maintenance and repairs on sludge de-watering facility including centrifuge, polymer pump, and piping.
Orders parts and maintains parts inventory.
Obtains water samples used for chemical testing; inspects meters and booster station equipment for proper operation; fabricates new mechanical and chemical system equipment; runs water lines; lays pipe.
Operates equipment such as back-hoe, boom truck, forklift, and dump truck.
Repairs raw water and distribution lines.
Maintains supplies for hurricane preparedness.
Replaces light bulbs; repairs sinks and toilets; repairs door hardware.
Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; with two years experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of heavy duty pumping and auxiliary power equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must possess' valid class C driver's license.
Additional RequirementsBackground investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; a motor vehicle report will be conducted, and driving history must meet the standards outlined by the City of Savannah; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores.Additional Information
