Description

Interns will be involved in administrative/clerical, technical, research, biological, accounting, information technology, or any areas of government employment, where their academic training can be utilized. This internship position is created to take students outside of the classroom setting and introduce them to educative, pre-professional experience in public service, to improve students' knowledge and skill development and to support the agency/department in meeting its goals. We are looking for motivated interns to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment to support departments in meeting their goals.

He/she reports to the supervisor, manager or head of the unit, who provides direction and feedback to the intern regarding his/her assignments and progress in the work environment. Interns are not considered employees of the Government of the Virgin Islands. To become a regular employee, you must apply and compete in the same manner as other applicants for regular Government of the Virgin Islands jobs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Promotes the GVI philosophy by making the best and highest use of all resources.
Works closely with supervisors or managers in the agency/department assigned. Assists and completes departmental projects.
Demonstrates ability to use computers and technology capabilities.
Participates in and learns about communication initiatives in order to transfer information through the social media.
Gathers historical data and provides analysis of said data to assist the agency/department in resolving issues or make educated decisions. Prepares reports, as requested.
Applies educational knowledge and skills in resolving problems within the agency/department assigned.
Communicates well both verbally and in writing; listens to and understand various viewpoints; shares relevant information timely; provides constructive feedback; maintains professionalism.
Engages others effectively and productively, and establishes trust, credibility and confidence.
Promotes collaboration and assists others with their initiatives and efforts.
Builds knowledge and expertise relative to current job assignment.
Listens to and builds customer relationships; increases customer satisfaction and ensures commitments are met.
Performs typing, filing, copying and other clerical tasks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for an  internship, you must be enrolled in a college, university, community college, law school, or graduate school and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Guidelines consist of departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Work can be routine or complex, it depends on the department or agency assigned to. The employee follows directions and maintains professional office decorum.

The purpose is to assist in carrying out the mission of the department and agency and to provide service to customers seeking assistance.

Contacts are made with co-workers, customers, employees within own agency, and the general public.

To obtain or provide information.
