Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs to the District's motor fleet, custodial, and landscaping equipment, or other machinery maintained by Fleet Services; performs related duties as required.

Performs minor repairs and maintenance to school buses and other vehicles;
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on custodial equipment and machinery such as scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, etc. to ensure proper and safe operation;
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on landscaping equipment and machinery such as mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, etc. to ensure proper and safe operation;
Troubleshoots the various systems and component parts of gasoline or electric-powered custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery;
Inspects, adjusts, removes, repairs, and replaces parts or assemblies on electrical systems and other systems of custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery;
Inspects, adjusts, removes, and replaces parts or components on engines and motors of custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery;
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces carburetors, alternators, starters, and related components of mowers and related machinery;
Performs tune-ups on custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery using diagnostic equipment;
Tests equipment to locate and identify problems and to check on repair work prior to returning equipment to active use;
Maintains cleanliness in work area;
Completes necessary paperwork; uses computer or other devices to enter reports and documentation;
Changes, mounts, dismounts, and balances a variety of tires;
Drives District vehicles and equipment.Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of experience assisting with mechanical repairs to automotive, custodial, agricultural, or heavy machinery. Substitution(s): Successful completion of a recognized vocational automotive or agricultural technician program may be substituted for the required experience.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
By completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License allowing the operation of vehicles with air brakes and the following endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S).Test/Job Contact Information
The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, Open Competitive eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period indicated above and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam covering the knowledge of parts, operation, diagnosis of defects, and repair of gasoline and diesel engines; electrical systems; transmissions; hydraulics; disc and air brake systems; carburetors, governors, and fuel systems; steering systems; and drive line systems.
Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time.
Candidates must bring **a valid driver's license** to the test.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and may include a pre-employment drug test.
The certification process will be the top 10 candidates on the eligible list, or top 25% of the list, whichever is greater, based on overall test score.
