Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for the removal, installation, repair and maintenance of various insulation materials (including asbestos) found in and around pipes, ducts, boilers, walls, ceilings, etc., of facilities owned by the Columbus Public Schools; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
Repairs, removes and installs insulation on piping, plumbing, metal ducts, boilers, pressure vessels such as hot water tanks with specific attention directed toward asbestos materials;
Maintains "tools of the trade" as required to install, repair, and/or remove insulation materials;
Attends on-going training as scheduled to acquire skills and knowledge of handling asbestos;
Cleans work areas to meet applicable codes and regulations (especially for asbestos materials);
Establishes and maintains an on-going inventory of insulation materials and tools that are typical for tasks found in Columbus Public Schools facilities;
Maintains appropriate written records of work assignments;
Supervises and instructs Plant Maintenance Helpers in work assignments;
Operates a motor vehicle to reach various work sites;
May wrap pipes with loose insulation materials i.e., aluminum foil, fiberglass, etc. occasionally use building blueprints and make estimates of quantity and size of insulation needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade and five (5) years' experience in the building insulation trade, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey level; or four (4) years' experience as a Plant Maintenance Helper with the Columbus Board of Education. Substitution(s): Possession of a certificate of completion of apprenticeship in the building insulation trade issued by the U.S. Department of Labor, or the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council, may be substituted for the required experience.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.Test/Job Contact Information
The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, Open Competitive eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period indicated above and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process is TBD.
Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time.
Candidates must bring **a valid driver's license** to the test.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and may include a pre-employment drug test.
The certification process will be the top 10 candidates on the eligible list, or top 25% of the list, whichever is greater, based on overall test score.
