Senior Tree Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for the care and removal of city trees.

Operates heavy equipment, including log loader, brush chipper, bucket truck, stump grinder, and dump truck.

Installs ropes and rigging devices in trees to facilitate safe removal.

Climbs trees to remove limbs and upper sections of trunk. Inspects and maintains assigned equipment.

Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed.

Participates in the planting of trees.

Grinds stumps.

Controls traffic at work sites.

Participates in site clean up.

Inspects and maintains assigned equipment

Performs other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED; with three years tree maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess' valid Class B commercial driver's license.

Knowledge of tree care and removal procedures and safety techniques.

Knowledge of tree species.

Knowledge of the city's emergency response plan as it relates to the assigned area.

Skill in the operation of chainsaws, pole saws, bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and other job related equipment.

Skill in the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment.

Skill in oral and written communication.
